Pine Creek Lake Fishing Guide: Bass, Crappie & Catfish
Pine Creek Lake fishing offers a long shoreline for its size in southeastern Oklahoma, plus public boat ramps, fishing piers and a useful bank-fishing feature: the old Highway 3 and 7 bridge extends well out into the lake. ODWC lists largemouth and spotted bass, white bass, channel and flathead catfish, and white crappie. Check the lake report and level before leaving, then decide whether you will fish from the bridge, a pier or a boat.
Bank fishing from the old bridge
ODWC identifies the old highway bridge as an easy-access fishing option. It lets a bank angler reach water farther from shore without a boat, but fish can still change depth and location. Start with a compact box: a few small jigs or minnows for crappie, a couple of search lures for bass, and a bottom rig for catfish. Keep casts clear of other anglers and use only legal public access. Confirm the bridge is open and safe before traveling; access conditions can change.
Crappie and bass: change depth deliberately
For crappie, use a small jig or minnow under a float and test the depth in short steps. If the bait catches bottom or cover, raise it slightly rather than repeatedly snagging. When you get a bite, repeat the depth and presentation before moving. For bass, fan-cast points and coves with a crankbait or spinnerbait, then slow down with a plastic bait around visible cover if fish follow but do not commit. Our crappie guide covers the float setup, and the fish-attractor guide shows how to use public structure locations.
Catfish: find a channel or creek transition
For channel or flathead catfish, try a bottom rig near a channel edge, creek channel or deeper transition. Use only enough weight to keep the bait in place and check it periodically. ODWC reports may list different baits and locations as conditions change, so treat each report as a current clue rather than a permanent recipe. Check state bait rules before using live fish. Our Oklahoma catfish guide offers practical starting rigs.
Boat ramps and below-dam rules
The Corps manages recreation areas, boat ramps and fishing piers at Pine Creek. Check the USACE recreation page for facilities and current access details. The area below the dam has additional method restrictions; ODWC’s special regulations define the distance and permitted methods. Read the current regulations before fishing the tailwater, because rules there are not interchangeable with main-lake rules.
For a comfortable first trip, check the forecast and lake level, bring a measuring device and water, and choose one access point close to the type of water you want. The ODWC Pine Creek page links to the current report, lake map and level. Our report-reading guide can help you turn that information into a first plan.
