Altus-Lugert Reservoir Fishing Guide: Walleye, Bass & Access

Altus-Lugert Reservoir fishing is shaped by its southwest Oklahoma setting and changing water levels. ODWC lists walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, catfish, crappie and sunfish, and the lake is stocked with walleye and channel catfish. Quartz Mountain State Park manages campgrounds, a boat ramp, fishing pier and designated swimming area. Check lake level and access before traveling, since a falling reservoir can change how much shoreline and launch access is usable.

Walleye: work points and controlled depths

Use a jig or shad-profile lure to test a point, drop or channel edge. Keep the lure in a depth you can feel and repeat a pass if a fish bites. If you are trolling, start with a controlled speed and make a note of the depth and location rather than changing speed, lure and direction all at once. ODWC’s Altus-Lugert page links to the lake map, level data and current fishing report.

Bass: compare shallow cover with nearby drops

For largemouth or smallmouth bass, search points, rock and available shoreline cover with a moving lure, then slow down with a plastic bait if you find activity. Compare a shallow stretch with a nearby drop instead of assuming the fish will be tight to shore. Because the reservoir’s water level can fluctuate, verify that a launch is usable and pay attention to exposed hazards. Avoid navigating by memory alone when the pool has changed.

Catfish and crappie: use the report as a clue

For channel catfish, use a bottom rig and a legal bait near a channel, creek mouth or depth transition. For crappie, test brush or other cover with a small jig or minnow under a float, changing depth gradually. The latest ODWC report can help you decide which species and presentation to try, but it reflects a particular time and set of conditions. Our crappie guide and catfish guide cover the basic tackle options.

Access near Quartz Mountain

ODWC lists the Quartz Mountain State Park fishing pier, ramp and campground facilities. Confirm openings and rules through the park before you go, especially if you plan to fish from shore or visit near a swimming area. Spring river movement can also make nearby upstream access relevant for white bass, but the exact area and conditions vary; ODWC’s Altus-Lugert WMA information notes that water levels influence success and that spring may bring fish upriver. Check the WMA access details before making that a specific plan.

Before keeping fish, check current ODWC regulations, lake level, weather and facility status. Our fishing-report guide helps turn recent reports into a reasonable first search pattern. Keep a backup shore-access plan if low water or wind changes the launch you intended to use.
