Lake Ponca Fishing Guide: Crappie Docks, Bass & Saugeye
Lake Ponca is a 778-acre city lake about five miles east of Ponca City on Lake Road. Its 17.2 miles of shoreline, public access, and two crappie docks make it a useful destination for both quick bank trips and boat outings. ODWC lists largemouth and spotted bass, black and white crappie, channel catfish, saugeye, hybrid striped bass, bluegill, and redear sunfish.
Crappie docks and fishing ideas
Two ADA-compliant crappie docks are on the west lake, one on each bank. ODWC’s sunfish guidance also points anglers toward coves near vegetation, the floating docks, the bridge between the east and west lakes, and the sailboat ramp on the east lake. Small jigs, minnows, worms, or crickets are a good starting kit; adjust depth and move along the shoreline until you locate fish. For bass, try cover and depth changes with soft plastics or search baits.
Special rules
ODWC lists a combined limit of six walleye, sauger, and saugeye per day with an 18-inch minimum, and rod-and-reel fishing only. Verify the current regulation before keeping fish, since statewide and local requirements can change. The lake is operated by Ponca City; check the city’s current access information and any posted rules before launching or fishing from a dock.
Trip planning
