Lake Pawhuska Fishing Guide: Trophy Sunfish & Public Access

Lake Pawhuska is a 103-acre lake in Osage County, about two miles south of U.S. 60 on 5205 Road. ODWC manages it as a trophy sunfish fishery and adds brush piles for fish habitat. The City of Pawhuska manages the ramp, fishing pier, and primitive campground.

Targeting sunfish and other species

ODWC lists bluegill and redear sunfish, largemouth bass, channel and flathead catfish, and black and white crappie. A department fishing guide recommends focusing on shoreline coves near the vegetation line and the east-side dock, especially in the morning and evening from spring into early fall. Worms, crickets, grasshoppers, and prepared bait are suggested local options for sunfish. Small jigs or soft plastics can help locate bass; try brush piles for crappie and fish deeper edges for catfish.

Access and local details

The city lists a boat ramp and fishing pier, parking, restrooms, and primitive camping. Some facilities are accessible, according to ODWC. Check with Pawhuska about current operating details, camping, boat permits, and any closures before visiting. Do not assume a dock is public unless it is identified as a public facility.
