Sanborn Lake Fishing Guide: Shoreline Bass & Sunfish Near Stillwater
Sanborn Lake is a close-to-home fishing spot on the north side of Stillwater in Payne County. The shoreline trail makes it possible to move between coves and try different water without a boat. ODWC notes that the lake has clear water and abundant aquatic vegetation; that vegetation can become dense in the hottest part of summer.
Fishing the shoreline
ODWC’s sunfish guidance recommends fishing close to shore in coves along the vegetation edge. Worms, crickets, grasshoppers, and prepared bait are practical choices for sunfish. Small hooks and a float let you fish pockets along the weed edge; try small soft plastics or compact lures for bass, keeping casts clear of thick vegetation. Fish the more open edges when plant growth makes the interior difficult to reach.
Access and conditions
Sanborn Park and Sports Complex includes a walking trail, picnic facilities, restrooms, and ball fields, according to ODWC. The trail provides access around much of the shoreline. Before fishing, check current City of Stillwater park information and any posted lake notices. Water levels and vegetation can change the most useful shoreline spots through the year.
