Lake Konawa Fishing Guide: Bass, Hybrid Stripers & Catfish

Lake Konawa is a 1,350-acre OG&E reservoir just east of Konawa, with three boat ramps, picnic areas and a designated swimming area. ODWC lists largemouth bass, hybrid striped bass, channel catfish, white bass and bluegill among the species anglers target. The lake has fish attractors, but its local rules are important: permitted methods include rod and reel, bowfishing and noodling.

Bank access and boat fishing

ODWC identifies North and South Recreation areas as useful bank-fishing locations. Walk the water’s edge and look for weed edges, riprap, points and signs of baitfish. From a boat, start on main-lake points or near the river channel, then use sonar or visible cover to narrow the search. Keep clear of the designated swimming area and check ramp conditions before launching.

Bass, hybrids and catfish

For largemouth bass, try a soft plastic or crankbait around points, weed edges and maintained fish attractors. Hybrid striped bass and white bass may use open-water baitfish schools; cast a small swimbait or jig when fish are feeding, and keep a rod ready if birds or surface activity reveal bait. For channel catfish, ODWC’s angler tips note spring and early summer as a useful period for bank anglers when fish spend more time shallow; try worms, stink bait, chicken liver or cut bait around weed edges and riprap.

Only rod and reel, bowfishing and noodling are listed as allowed methods. Jug lines, trotlines and cast nets are not listed as legal methods for Konawa, so check current local and statewide regulations before you fish.

Plan around conditions

There is no camping or fee listed by ODWC, but operating details can change. Carry water and sun protection, and avoid fishing near swimmers or boat traffic. For related Oklahoma species tips, see our catfish guide and white bass guide.
