Lake Burtschi Fishing Guide: Bass, Saugeye & Fishing Jetties

Lake Burtschi is a 168-acre ODWC-managed lake about 10 miles southwest of Chickasha. Its five fishing jetties, two piers and two boat ramps give anglers several ways to reach water without needing a large boat. ODWC lists largemouth bass, crappie, channel catfish and saugeye among the lake’s fisheries.

Pick a jetty or pier and fish thoroughly

Start at a jetty that reaches a point or deeper water. Make a few casts parallel to the rocks, then fan-cast outward. A small jig or soft plastic is easy to work around cover; use a float to suspend a bait when panfish are near the bank. If you have a boat, north- and south-side ramps provide launch options, but check weather and water conditions before heading out.

Target the species you can reach

For bass, try a compact spinnerbait or soft plastic along points and rocky edges, slowing down with a jig when fish are not chasing. For crappie, use a small jig or minnow beneath a float and test several depths around brush or pier structure. Saugeye often reward bottom-oriented presentations: drag or hop a jig slowly along a point, keeping contact without burying the hook in snags. For channel catfish, a simple bottom rig and bait fished from a safe, legal access spot is a practical option.

ODWC’s area-specific rule limits channel and blue catfish to six combined per day and allows up to two rods and reels per person plus bowfishing. Check current statewide and area rules before fishing; posted rules and seasons can change.

Access and trip planning

Chickasha is the nearest major town for supplies. ODWC notes accessible fishing berms and a dock; contact Grady County for current access details. Bring water, sun protection and shoes with traction for wet rocks. For another southwest Oklahoma option, compare our Fort Cobb fishing guide, and see our crappie guide for basic jig and float setups.
