Hulah Lake Fishing Guide: Bass, Crappie, Catfish & Access

Hulah Lake fishing is a quiet northeastern Oklahoma option in Osage County, with largemouth bass, white bass, black and white crappie, and channel, blue and flathead catfish. ODWC describes Hulah as a 2,635-acre lake with about 27 miles of shoreline, located northeast of State Highway 99 on State Highway 10. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages boat ramps, campgrounds and designated swimming areas.

Choose a target species

For bass, begin around accessible points, creek arms and visible cover, testing a moving lure before slowing down with a soft plastic. For crappie, try a small jig or minnow around submerged brush and other cover, adjusting depth gradually. For catfish, use a bottom rig with legal bait along a channel edge or creek mouth. White bass can be approached with a small shad-profile lure when baitfish activity appears. These are general search tactics; check current ODWC reports for conditions before your trip.

Access and lake conditions

Hulah is a relatively shallow reservoir, with ODWC listing a maximum depth of about 20 feet. Check the ODWC Hulah Lake page for the lake map, depth lines and current information, and the USACE Hulah page for recreation facilities. Confirm ramp status, lake level and park operations before leaving, especially after heavy rain or during low water.

A practical first-trip plan

Pick one species and one section of lake, then make a short first pass across a point, creek arm or cover edge. If you find bait or a bite, repeat that depth and presentation before changing several things at once. Hulah has about 27 miles of shoreline, so a focused plan will be more useful than trying to fish the entire reservoir in a day. Bring a backup shoreline or launch option in case wind or water conditions change.

Rules to check before fishing

ODWC lists special method restrictions below Hulah Dam. Bowfishing is prohibited for 1,200 feet below the dam to the reregulation dam, and gigs, spears, spearguns and snagging are prohibited from the dam downstream to the confluence of the old and new river channels. Review the complete Hulah Lake restrictions and current Oklahoma fishing regulations before you go.
